Safety Appraisals, Assessments and Audits
Safety appraisals, assessments, and audits are useful for periodically evaluating how well a safety program is designed and functioning. They are also valuable for determining a starting point for improvements when the safety program may have been neglected for an extended period of time. Alpha Terra can conduct an evaluation that compares your organization’s safety programs to regulatory requirements. We identify the most efficient way to address any deficiencies that may be found. Alpha Terra has a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor for Safety and Health on staff.

PPE Hazard Assessments
A hazard assessment is performed to determine the type of workplace exposures that exist within your facility or community operations and identifies the appropriate types of personal protective equipment needed.

The categories of hazards assessed are:

  • Impact
  • Penetration
  • Compression
  • Chemical
  • Heat
  • Harmful Dust
  • Optical Radiation

An indication of the level of risk within each category is included in the hazard assessment. The hazard assessment needs to be updated whenever there are operational changes, equipment changes, or when different hazards are introduced.

Safety Training

Safety Training includes identifying all training requirements for an organization, outlining required topics, preparing a presentation timeline, preparing training materials, and conducting the training sessions.

Performance Based/Site Specific Training
Performance-based training is a key part of safety compliance, and as such, Alpha Terra has completed extensive customized training on a wide range of safety topics and for a broad spectrum of industry, mining and public sector clients. A variety of participatory training methods are used including discovery learning, imbedded testing, as well as a variety of quizzes, tests and exercises intended to enhance the learning experience.

General Awareness Training
We conduct General Awareness Training seminars. These sessions may cover regulatory requirements such as hazard communication, respiratory protection, confined space entry and defensive driving.

MSHA 8- Hour Refresher Training
With MSHA refresher training coming to a close, we are pleased to inform you that for the fourth year in a row Alpha Terra has successfully trained over 2,000 truckers and miners. These sessions require a combination of safety and first aid training. Our instructors are certified by the American Heart Association, which allows us to provide the full eight hours of training. Generally training is provided between January and early April. See our 2008 MSHA Schedule.

Strategic Safety Management

Our Strategic Safety Management services include developing cost -effective, customized written safety programs that include all regulatory component documents required by the standards; Safety Management Programs; identifying opportunities for reducing accident rates, worker's compensation costs, and other cost savings associated with business and safety decisions; and conducting compliance assessments and audits, organizing safety documentation, and directing safety efforts.

Safety Management Systems (Electronic Format)

A Safety Management System is a management tool that defines your company's or public sector's safety policy while providing for professional oversight of documents and records. The SMS identifies key safety regulations or initiatives that apply to your specific situation. This tool organizes resources and reference materials that are critical to compliance and provides structure to regularly improve the organization's safety performance and efficiency.

The Safety Management System is provided to you in an electronic format. The electronic SMS not only provides for very efficient document management, but also allows management of the procedures for controlling your facility's compliance.

An electronic SMS allows specific people to access all or a portion of the SMS documentation from a computer workstation much like web sites are accessed on the internet. It provides for document management and control, while making changes simpler and more certain.

In addition, an electronic SMS assures compliance just as a paper management system, but with greater efficiency due to ease of records retrieval and the certainty of document control.

Industrial Hygiene Services

Our Industrial Hygiene Services include air quality monitoring, reviewing results and assisting in selecting engineering controls and/or workplace practices to ensure employee protection from air contaminants. Noise level monitoring establishes noise exposure levels and determines the need for engineering controls and a hearing conservation program. All sampling protocol and report documentation is peer reviewed by a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
